We recently bought a house in a rather unfamiliar locality for us and Debbie was our realtor. We first met Debbie at an open house she was hosting for one of her clients. We didn't have a realtor at the time and we were very unfamiliar with the neighborhood. A number of realtors offered to show us houses but we ultimately chose Debbie because of her warm personality, non-aggressive approach, and her professionalism. Our first meeting with her, she prepared three portfolios with highlights for each of the neighborhoods we were interested in. She prepared an extensive list of houses that met our criteria. What really impressed me was that she handpicked each property based on our likes/dislikes and told us why she thought we would be interested in every property she presented. She didn't just put our criteria in an online database and send it to us blindly. As our preferences matured, she remember our little nuances, what I liked vs what my husband liked. If you have ever worked with a realtor before, you know they work by volume and they sometimes just add you to these giant mailing list where you get updates every time a new house comes on to the market. Basically the realtor is letting you do all the leg work. Debbie is the complete opposite and I consider myself lucky to work with her. She provided a very tailored service for our needs and she really went above and beyond in helping us find ideal house. She showed us dozens of homes over several months. She never rushed us or hesitate to arrange a visit for us even if she thought the house was not the right fit (and she was often right). My husband and I were first time home buyers and didn't really know what to look for when we first started house hunting. Debbie was a wealth of information and really educated us what to look for in a house and helped us hone our own preferences. I always felt that she gave us her honest opinion and didn't hesitate to point out something that may talk us out of a purchase. Even when my husband and I thought we found a house that was perfect for us, she told us to consider the unconventional layout, questionable updates, and resaleability of the property. We eventually decided that Berkeley Heights, New Providence, and Summit was not for us based on various commute, cost, and property size/age factors. It took us months to realize this but Debbie stayed with us through all our ups and downs. She even provided references for realtors in other neighborhoods. We eventually looked around and decided on a neighborhood an hour away from where Debbie helped us. We found a few houses on our own and worked with a number of different realtors in an attempt to find someone we could trust. Unfortunately, none of the realtors worked out. Debbie did us a big favor. She agreed to come down and represented us. She drove an hour each way to take us on property visits and she even pre-scouted the properties a day before showing them to us. She went above and beyond to help us in an area she didn't normally worked. She researched the area, helped us put together a bid, and negotiate the price. After our bid was accepted, she helped us work with our lawyer and the seller's lawyer and negotiate the repairs. Every step of the way, she made sure nothing went wrong. The lawyers were horrible and unresponsive, the seller's real estate agent was abrasive and uncooperative. There were a dozen issues that popped up in the process that could have derailed our home purchase and I genuinely feel Debbie is the only reason we were able to complete the home purchase successfully and on time. I would not hesitate to work with Debbie again and would recommend her to any of my friends looking to purchase a home.
